A New Offering: Microlearning Videos
As many organizations have had to eliminate their DEI (Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion) functions to keep their federal dollars, there’s a real risk of allowing toxicity to creep back into their cultures.
On the one hand, I hope that many of our organizational leaders will resist this trend, summon their courage, and stand strong in their commitment to their people. There’s compelling data to support this stance:
76% of employees say they’re more likely to stay long-term if their employer supports DEI.
43% (especially women, people of color, and Gen Z) say they’d leave if that support disappears.
69% of consumers favor inclusive brands.
36% of consumers will boycott brands when they’re aware that they’ve pulled away from DEI.
83% of legal scholars warn that organizations put themselves at greater legal risk when they cease DEI programs.
On the other hand, I know of several organizations who would simply not be able to survive the loss of federal contracts and grants. They don’t want to stop the work, but neither do they want to lay off huge numbers of people or close their doors. They’re stuck.
While we all hope that this dark period in our history is short-lived, these organizations have work to do in the meantime — to ensure that their workplaces don’t devolve into toxic cultures where people don’t want to work. So much of this depends on the behavior of leaders — everyone from senior leaders to mid-level people managers.
To aid organizations with this, I’m offering a new service at Red Seven Consulting: customized micro-learning videos (around 10-15 minutes) on any number of topics that organizations can use either as a quick refresher or a “just-in-time” learning opportunity (e.g., before it’s time to write another round of performance assessments, ask all people managers to view a short video, featuring five best practices to keep in mind that will benefit both staff and the organization as a whole).
Of course, this video featured my logo, my favorite font (hello, American Typewriter), and my brand colors. Your videos will look like they were made by you, using visuals — and more importantly, language — that comes from you. So if it’s “Performance Appraisal” or “Performance Review” at your organization, that’s what I’ll say. It’s my expertise and your look and feel, and a valuable resource for your organization. And you’ll own these videos forever.
